Great Steak Makes a Great Food Court Tenant

Mall food courts are on the rise and cheesesteaks stand out as a hot and fresh made-to-order specialty sandwich among the usual burgers and pizza

Food courts are on the rise, and investors looking for a standout food court business are choosing Great Steak™.

Take, for example, soon to be new Great Steak franchisees Mark Coleman and wife, Sara. The couple researched business investments for a couple of years before deciding franchise ownership was the ideal choice. After speaking with Kari Combs, Vice President of Operations, and looking at many quick-service restaurant concepts, they ultimately went with Great Steak as the brand they wanted to launch in one of Fairfax, Virginia’s, busiest shopping malls.

The Colemans will be opening their Great Steak restaurant soon in Fair Oaks Mall, a large mall with high-end stores such as Apple, J. Crew and Michael Kors. Not only does Great Steak offer a niche product, but customers enjoy watching their food made hot and fresh right before their eyes.

The Great Steak cheesesteak franchise concept has been steadily growing for more than 30 years. There are many more reasons for Great Steak’s enduring appeal, of course: high-quality ingredients and a setup that allows consumers to interact with their food prep, for starters, as well as a comprehensive, yet simple menu that gives plenty of options but doesn’t overwhelm. It all adds up to a positive consumer experience that helps build brand loyalty and repeat business for franchise owners, says Kari Combs, Vice President of Operations.

Training and support helps owners grow business

During his research of franchise concepts, Mark, a school principal, found that other concepts could be traced back to lack of support from management. When he discovered the incredible franchise support Kahala Brands™ provides to Great Steak franchise owners, he knew he’d found the right franchise. “The support we are getting from the franchise development team is exceptional,” he says. In addition to training at Kahala Brands™ headquarters in Arizona before their grand opening, franchisees complete Great Steak’s thorough 40 hours of on-site training once their restaurant is up and running.

“We really like that Kahala Brands focuses on developing franchises and working with the owners once they are open,” Mark says. “Kahala Brands supports owners because that is what they do, and they do it so well. It’s been such a pleasurable experience having that support and safety net knowing everything is being done correctly and on time.”

Shoppers seek fresh ingredients and high-quality food

In addition to the ongoing support from the experienced Kahala Brands team, the Colemans found that Great Steak’s high-quality food was ideal for the discriminating shoppers who frequent Fair Oaks Mall.

“We really love the menu and fresh options. It’s quick-service style and not overly unhealthy, which appeals to more health-conscious customers,” Mark says. “Great Steak uses natural meat products, and the food is all fresh and all made on site in front of the customer. It’s fresh food and good food!”
